Katie + Jeff | Avanti Mansion Wedding Buffalo

Every couple I had the opportunity to work with this past season was incredible and unique in their own way. They were without a doubt the people I was meant to work with. Compassionate, caring, transparent and most importantly fun-loving and filled with deep devotion to the people they call family. I remember when Katie and Jeff came in for their consultation. Our first meeting just felt so comfortable. Between Katie’s sweet personality and Jeff’s clear desire to bring laughter into any room, I knew we were going to make a great team. I know I speak for the three of us when I recall the resounding laughter we all shared during their engagement session when Jeff decided to hang upside down from a tree and kiss Katie like Spiderman (he made it clear to me he’s a HUGE Spiderman fan and that was definite proof!) Fast forward to their wedding day. From my time of arrival to the last dance, their wedding was filled with authentic love and connection, with fun and joy. We captured genuine smiles and tears, moments where Jeff nearly passed out that we all laughed about later. At the core of it all was the clarity that these two just belong. Together. It was an honor to document their wedding day and it brings me joy to share their unique love story right here. These two still had me laughing as I read some of their answers! I hope you have some laughs too but most importantly, that you feel a sense of warmth see ing that authentic, true love exists in our world!

How Katie and Jeff met:

“We met at at party in high school where Jeff threw up on me after having too much to drink! We reconnected after Jeff returned to Buffalo after 5 years in the Marine Corps . I had asked him to help me move into my apartment and he graciously said yes! We started dating shortly after we both healed from our minor injuries from moving the washing machine (I cut my finger and had to go to Urgent Care and Jeff complained of a back injury after I dropped the machine on him haha)”

How did Jeff propose?

“At an escape room! The ring was in the final clue and I really had no idea what was going on...I may have told Jeff to shut up as he was proposing because I thought he was cracking jokes as per usual!”

Describe the type of wedding you planned and why?

Small and intimate with family and close friends that we consider family. It was perfect

Katie recalls one of her favorite memories of their wedding day:

“Walking down the isle and seeing Jeff's reaction . He was so overcome with emotion and here I was nervous all the days leading up to it that he wouldn't even cry!”

Describe the thoughts/feelings when you saw your bride/groom for the first time on your wedding day:

“I could not hold in all my happiness and was trying to hold in my urge to sob! It further confirmed how perfect he is for me. I can't even put it into words!”

Katie and Jeff shared a laughable moment from their wedding day they will never forget:

“When everyone thought that Jeff was going to pass out!”

Describe your most emotional moment on your wedding day:

“Our first look and walking down the isle. It was everything I pictured it would be.”

What do you look forward to most in married life?

“Always having a partner every step of the way!”

How Katie and Jeff like to spend time together:

“We love to try new local bars/restaurants and explore this city with great food. We also love watching Big Brother every summer! Big commitment since it's 3 days a week but we never miss an episode!”

Jeff’s favorite thing about Katie:

“How she is always able to brighten my day, and that I know she is always in my corner. “

Katie’s favorite thing about Jeff:

“His big heart...he really makes me feel special. Also his energy! He is always willing to try new things.”

Katie and Jeff offered some words of advice for couples planning their wedding:

“Have the wedding that makes you and your spouse feel most comfortable.”

Katie and Jeff said the best part about working with Michelle Day Photography to capture their wedding day was that they can call me a friend. I feel the same you two! It was an incredible, intimate day filled with tears of joy and love that burst out of the room!

Megan + Brian | Westin Hotel Buffalo Wedding

How we met and how he proposed: “Brian and I were classmates starting our first year in medical school together when we first met. I was leading a medical mission trip to Haiti and both Brian and his mother, a pediatric nurse practitioner, were members on the trip.

Brian and I had finally finished our applications for residency and we went out to dinner at the Terrace on Hoyt Lake to celebrate. We usually don't go out to dinner at formal restaurants so he had his mother send us a "congratulations" gift card to cover the expense of dinner so I wouldn't be suspicious when he decided to get the best of the best on the dinner and wine menu. After dinner we went to walk around Hoyt lake when he pulled me aside by the water and popped the question.”

“We planned a wedding for the middle of June 2018 right before we planned to move to Pittsburgh to start our new medical residencies. We decided to have the ceremony at Christ the King Church, Brian's home parish and where he attended school up until high school. We decided to have the reception at the Westin in downtown Buffalo because we loved the space and wanted to highlight the awesome downtown Buffalo that I had come to love over the past 4 years.”

Megan’s emotional moment of the day (among many!): “Around 11:30 or Noon on wedding day as I was finally getting my hair and makeup started, Michelle and her assistant came to the house to start the day and the fact that everything was starting to happen so quickly was like an emotional wave that came over me. I started to cry, happy tears, but due to the overwhelming excitement, nervousness, and disbelief that this day was finally here.”

Megan and Brian recalled a big highlight of their day: “I think I can speak for Brian and myself when I say we had the best time out on the dance floor. Specifically, I loved the last three songs of the night "Piano Man", "Sweet Caroline", and "Shout". Shout out to our live band, Party of Nine, for helping us throw a great party.”

What went through your minds when you saw eachother for the first time?: “I distinctly remember feeling my heart beat out of my chest as I waited in the back room with dad waiting for all 8 pairs of bridesmaids and groomsmen to walk down the isle before it was my turn. I also visibly recall the overwhelming sense of peace I felt when I made it to the end of the isle and was able to stand next to Brian.”

What do you love to do together? “We like to embark on small new adventures together like learning to make homemade dumplings, and embarking on small old adventures like kayaking, jet skiing or going for walks in Silver Creek at the Killeen Family Cottage.”

Now that they’re pros at wedding planning, Megan and Brian offered a tidbit of advice to other engaged couples planning their wedding in Buffalo or anywhere: “Take wedding-planning-free days at least once a week or you may go crazy.”

Megan shared some truly sweet words with us about their experience with us! Love you too Megan! You’re a pretty incredible human as well! “She was so great to work with from the first minute to the last song on the dance floor. She put me at ease through the whole process and there was nothing I needed more than a comforting and fun to be around human on my big day.”

Caroline + Brian | Buffalo Wedding and Buffalo Yacht Club Wedding

I like to think that as a photographer and a person, I attract the non-mainstream couples, the ones that want to do it a little different yet keep it classy and timeless.  Last season I had several opportunities to work with couples that had such a beautiful and fun story to tell and who chose to do things a little...different and non-traditional.  Enter Caroline and Brian.  To me, these two epitomize the classic military couple.  Sweet on eachother and timeless.  They have that kind of affection for one another that you can't help but soak up.  I remember when Caroline and I first spoke on the phone.  I was sitting in my home office watching the blustery winter day out my window as I worked.  I was smiling as we chatted.  Caroline told me of their plans to get married in Buffalo about a week before Christmas with just Caroline's parents and her good friend Sarah present.  The big party would come that following September.  Elopements and what I like to call pre-ceremonies are some of my favorite.  The pressure of the day is gone.  There is nothing to worry about except your presence and love for one another and you have no distraction from that.  We had the PERFECT winter day complete with a lake effect snowstorm (the kind only found in story books!) and for their September reception at the Buffalo Yacht Club the PERFECT late summer day! Hazy sunshine and blue skies.  The best part of my job though wasn't the weather or setting, but the relationship I built with these two on their journey.  I became a part of their lives and they part of mine.  We were like old friends and that is something I LOVE!  Caroline and Brian's testament of their wedding days are so great.  Enjoy!

How we met and how he proposed: "We were both living in Pensacola for our professions. We met at a bar one Friday night, and immediately hit it off.  Brian proposed at the top of the Ferris wheel overlooking Niagara Falls.

"We planned a small, intimate wedding while Brian was home from an overseas tour of duty. Shortly thereafter, Caroline joined Brian in Japan. Later, they held a reception for close family and friends in Buffalo, NY."

Brian and Caroline recalled their favorite memory from their wedding days: "Brian's favorite memory is watching his wife, Caroline, dance to 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond. Caroline's favorite memory was the surprise Buffalo blizzard during their imitate ceremony in December. It was truly a winter wonderland!"

What was running through your mind when you saw one another for the first time?

"Brian explains his thoughts as "seeing her for the first time." Caroline couldn't stop thinking about how she is the luckiest woman in the world."

Caroline and Brian shared some of their favorite things and what they most look forward to in married life:

"Laughing every single day.  We love traveling and going on mini-adventures, trying new restaurants, hiking, and cooking together."

Caroline and Brian shared what they love about eachother:

Brian: "Her warmth and sense of humor."

Caroline: "His drive to always do better.  It's contagious."

A funny moment and emotional moments...

"The Father-of-the-bride dropping all of his notecards during his speech. It was a riot!"

"The Father-of-the-bride's speech. It was heartfelt and warm. He is my stepfather and his last line before our dance was "let's take the step out..."

Some words of wisdom for having the best wedding day possible...

"Don't overthink things. Everything has a way of working out just right!"

Caroline and Brian were so sweet to share some kind words about their experience with us...

"It is very easy to communicate with Michelle. She is able to take the lead for poses and is very receptive to our input. She is outgoing, joyous, and so much fun to work with!"
